Jason Holtgrewe
LPC-MHSP, NCC
Jason became a therapist because of how much therapy helped him. While working as a pastor, he experienced chronic anxiety that led to depression. Jason had learned to present himself as strong and to have an answer to each question and a solution to every problem, but the difficulties of life and the painful reality of being human led him to a more authentic way to live. This new way of being and living was discovered when Jason worked with a therapist; it included embracing vulnerability as a path to healing, being honest about his emotions as a way to connect with himself and others, and learning to trust that he was loved and accepted without conditions—not because he was living up to who he “should” be but because of who he actually was.
Jason desires to help others as he’s been helped—through empathetic, insightful, and wise therapy. He seeks to assist individuals, couples, and families in their journey to become healthier mentally and emotionally, deeper spiritually, and more compassionate and just toward themselves and their neighbors. A passion for Jason is helping individuals address their shame by courageously turning toward their pain, facing their fears, accepting their limitations, and finding and creating meaning in life’s inherent anxieties, sadness, and loneliness, as well as awakening to life’s renewal, beauty, and joy.
Jason has an integrative approach that emphasizes emotionally-focused, trauma-informed, psychodynamic, existential, acceptance and commitment, and person-centered theories. Most importantly, Jason brings empathy and compassion. More than any theory or intervention, Jason believes the key to healthy change and therapeutic success is the safety and trust the client experiences in the therapeutic relationship.
Jason is originally from Iowa and moved to Memphis a few years ago. He and his wife Kelsey have four young children and a dog named Mollie. Jason enjoys reading about psychology, spirituality, and history; going for runs; listening to podcasts; watching psychological thrillers, crime dramas, and historical documentaries; cheering for his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes; and enjoying locally-owned Memphis restaurants and breweries.
