Come Just As You Are

There is no shame in asking for help

You wouldn’t frown upon an injured/sick person going to the doctor.

You wouldn’t frown upon someone who is out of shape going to the gym.

Therefore, therapy which can be both exercise and healing of the mind and heart should be treated no differently.

Many people who even consider counseling often worry about others viewing them as “crazy.” However, if we are honest with ourselves, we could all use some form of therapy or counseling in our lives.

There is much less to it than you might think

Many people imagine counseling as a Sigmund Freud-like character constantly psychoanalyzing you, but this is simply not the case.

Counseling can be anything from unpacking trauma from our past to simply venting about frustrations at work.

Counseling can be wanting to hear what a professional thinks of your circumstances, or maybe just having someone’s undivided attention when speaking about emotions.

Whatever the reason, nothing is too much or too little for counseling.

Be yourself

Some people try to give counselors the “right answers” due to insecurity or shame.

It can feel vulnerable sharing your deepest thoughts and feelings with someone but, with a good counselor, there is no judgment in counseling. Quite the contrary, the counselor would want to know your story so that he or she can better help you.

So if you are considering counseling, I strongly encourage it. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be your very best.
