Kim Arnwine

GRADUATE-LEVEL COUNSELING Practicum

In John 16:33 Jesus says, “I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” Two beliefs undergird Kim’s counseling philosophy: We live in a fallen world, however, as we put our trust in the Lord, we can find peace in the midst of chaos.

Kim has been a full-time Latin teacher at ECS for the past seventeen years. She views part of her ministry at ECS as helping her students navigate through the struggles they face as adolescents. Research has shown since the onset of COVID, anxiety and depression among children and adolescents have risen to an epic proportion. Her desire to partner with students and families to increase awareness of mental health issues, Kim is pursuing her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at the Townsend Institute at Concordia University, Irvine, CA.

Having sought therapy herself to deal with complex trauma and family conflict, Kim has developed a deep desire to use her gifts and talents to help others find their life’s purpose and to aid in their healing and growth. She approaches counseling her clients with empathy, attunement, compassion, and humility. Kim counsels from an integrated approach incorporating different theoretical orientations that meet her clients’ needs (i.e., cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, emotionally focused therapy, internal family systems, solution focused brief therapy, and the Townsend Model of Character Structure).

Kim loves to travel and has been fortunate to visit 10 countries. She enjoys reading, crossword puzzles, cross stitching, and jigsaw puzzles in her spare time. She also enjoys baking, walking, enjoying time with her family (husband of 32 years, their 2 adult children and son-in-law) and friends and snuggling with her dog.

Education

Kim has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Classics (Latin and Greek) from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. She has applied her degree to teaching Latin at Evangelical Christian School for the last 17 years.

She is currently working toward the completion of her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Concordia University, Irvine, CA (The Townsend Institute).
