Counseling

Tim is passionate about helping people find their true self that is often hidden under years of rejection, shame, addiction, abuse and neglect. He believes that this true self, though limited and weak, is also valuable, gifted and is the only one able to do what he was made to do. Finding that person is a challenge and Tim engages clients in the process of uncovering the true self. He is also passionate about helping mend broken relationships. Marriages are suffering and in entering into that suffering, Tim helps couples find connection, empathy, and peace.

His training and experience come from varied sources; private practice, teaching 20 years at the college and graduate level, and working in an inpatient setting.

Tim was born and raised in rural Northern California, the youngest of 5 children. He moved to Memphis in 1986 with his wife, Pam, and son and stayed to raise his family. He now has 3 children and 5 grandchildren. He loves the NFL and riding his Honda Interstate 1300. He also loves classic English Literature and has read every Charles Dickens novel.

Spiritual Direction

When hearing invitational Scriptures such as…”That I may know Him,…” or “You have said, ‘Seek my face.’ My heart says to you, ‘Your face, Lord, I do seek,’ ” or “My sheep hear My voice;” do you experience a yearning for something deeper in your life?

Do you have a longing for God that feels unquenchable?  Do you feel you must pursue your quest for God?

At the same time, do you sometimes feel you fail in the searching and the questing? Do you struggle with discouragement, maybe even humiliation, in your search? Though these hard seasons may have lasted months or even years, do you keep hearing a “call” to intimacy with the triune God?

No matter where you are in your path, no matter how long you’ve been on your quest, I’d be honored to be with you in it, walking alongside in your journey.

Let’s start by defining Christian Spiritual Direction. It is,“...help given by one Christian to another which enables that person to pay attention to God’s personal communication to him or her, to respond to this personally communicating God, to grow in intimacy with this God, and to live out the consequences of the relationship.” (Barry, 2).

It also helps to define Spiritual Direction (SD) by distinguishing it from other experiences. For example, SD is not therapy. It is not pastoral counseling. It is not discipleship. All these things are good. And SD is not a substitute for any of them.

Spiritual Direction is a part of Christian history dating back to the first and second centuries. Although for many years the discipline was dominated by the more liturgical churches, Protestants like Richard Foster and Dallas Willard, to name two, have more recently brought it to the attention of the broader Church community.

Typically, spiritual directors and directees meet once a month. A nominal fee is charged, please reach out for more information.
